My favorite walk I have taken in New York, was when I was introduced to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. Not only was it an amazing vantage point, but as someone not originally from New York, entering the city from the Brooklyn Bridge is a memory that will last a lifetime. What makes it so unique is that you are not speeding in a car or a subway into the fast paced city, but slowly approaching one step at a time.
Focusing on this aspect, I want to mic up my shoes and mix the footsteps in with the surround sound recording of the walk. To enhance the footsteps, I plan to use shoes with cameras mounted on them, to capture the walk from the view of my feet. The shoes have pressure sensors in them which control the opacity of the image. The camera lens is only “open” when the shoe has full pressure applied. When walking, only one camera is open at a time, representing each step.
